The Pride and Grace of a Hound

The Poitevin (originally called *Haut-Poitou*) is one of the oldest and most distinguished hound breeds in France, bred in the 17th century by the Marquis de Larye. The breed was created by crossing traditional French scent hounds with Foxhounds imported from Great Britain. The goal was to create a dog with unmatched speed, endurance, and an outstanding sense of smell for hunting in the difficult terrain of the Poitou province.

The Poitevin is a tall, extremely elegant dog with a light build that resembles a cross between a scent hound and a sighthound. It is characterized by a dynamic gait, magnificent ears, and a melodious, loud voice used to announce picking up a scent trail.

It is an extremely rare breed worldwide, and very difficult to acquire outside of France. We are proud that **we are the only ones in Poland** to own two female Poitevins (Aura de l'Empereur and Sombra du Val de Loire) registered under the FCI. Our mission is to care for this unique heritage, popularize the breed in the country, and responsibly plan its future.
